Tribac was formed in Zimbabwe in March 1995. Utilising the pioneering spirit inherited from their forefathers, and their many years of experience in tobacco, the founders decided to form a new company with a fresh approach to this long established industry.
The incentive to establish a new company arose due to the reduction in the number of world-wide leaf merchants following continuous mergers & acquisitions, and the lack of choice of supply that was available to manufacturers.
The Company aimed to offer a top class product, coupled with a high standard of service to all customers.
In only it's second year of trading the Company applied for, and was awarded, a grade A buying license, enabling TRIBAC (PVT) LTD to purchase green tobaccos at both the Flue Cured Virginia and Burley tobaccos auction floors.
Obtaining this license did not come without its drama. Politicians and competitors alike resisted Tribac's application for the license, and it was only after a heated legal battle that went to the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe that the resolve of the founders and its employees won through.
Customers, both existing and potential, were satisfied with the result that would ensure that Tribac could guarantee continuity of supply.
Tribac's mission is to continue its conservative growth pattern, with the view of providing its customers with the best tobaccos and a top quality service at a competitive price.
The company and all of its members are fully committed to this varied and exciting industry and, with the future of the Zimbabwe operation assured, the founders took the next step in developing the company into a truly global leaf merchant.
